Why isn’t your site ranked by Google? (And why maybe it’s not your fault)

You’ve spent months creating a great website. Maybe you’ve addressed every SEO checklist you could find on the internet. Maybe you’ve added great content, optimised images, and maintained your blog regularly updated. But when you enter your company name into Google, you can’t locate it. Not page one. Not page five. Occasionally not even indexed.

Sound familiar?

This is a pretty common issue that we see with businesses both big and small. And while causes can range, most of them are a result of a few behind-the-scenes issues that aren’t always apparent by looking at them externally. Your site may look great. That isn’t to say that it’s healthy.

The Hidden SEO Killers

There are a few technical hurdles that will unknowingly keep your entire site from ever ranking. We’ve seen it time and time again. Redesigns created beautifully, but with a forgotten setting that tells Google not to index them. Others with broken internal architectures that confuse crawlers and disable organic performance. Occasionally, it’s the sitemap. Occasionally, a cellphone issue. Often, it’s all of them colluding at once.

Plugins themselves will not pick up everything. Online free audit plugins and reporting will give you leads but not the entire picture.

A Cracked Foundation Can’t be Optimised

You wouldn’t build a skyscraper on a cracked foundation. Websites do just that, stacking content upon a poor backend. SEO is not just keyword-stuffing articles or messing with titles. Google cares very much how your site loads, how it acts on a phone, how it responds to interaction, and whether actual people hang around to read what you have to say.

These factors matter far more than most realise. Especially in 2025, where Google’s systems are smarter than ever.

LLM Optimisation is the Future

We’re not just doing traditional SEO at FatFinger. We’re optimising for how search engines process things themselves. Search is moving with Large Language Models (LLMs). Direct questions are being extracted by Google from authority sources, rather than just matching exact terms.

That means your site is properly authored and structured so that it appeals to both machines and human beings. Keyword density no longer matters, you need to be the answer. Structuring content around entity recognition. Establishing topical authority that gets picked up by LLMs.

But My Content is Good…

Good. But if that isn’t aligned with how folks are actually searching, that site isn’t gonna rank. Most business owners write from the perspective of what they themselves do but not necessarily how people are seeking them out. That mismatch is why good content under-performs.

In all honesty, great content isn’t good enough by itself. Not if your loading speed is slow. Not if your mobile experience isn’t perfect. Not if your internal linking is non-existent. Not if your competitors are getting backlinks while you’re just twiddling your thumbs.

So What Can You Actually Do?

There are steps, of course. A plan of attack. But to describe them all here would be counterproductive. Because even if you know the several technical reasons why your site isn’t ranked, you’d still need to know how to fix them, how to prioritise them, and how not to mess up something else along the way. Most will stall at this juncture. Or worse, go backwards.

What We Offer

At FatFinger, we begin with a foundation-first approach. We inspect damaged sites, repair the damage, then build your foundation in a format that Google not only detects, but admires. We’ve launched businesses from obscurity to first place with no more than a solid strategy and a series of intentional tweaks.

It’s not a matter of doing more. It’s a matter of doing the correct things, at the correct time, with the correct understanding.

Done with guessing? We’d be happy to take a look. Our audits are detailed, no-jargon, and aimed at pinpointing just exactly what’s holding back your site.

Since being ranked by Google isn’t luck at all.
